Frequently Asked Questions — JAC Delhi 2026 15 FAQs
1
What exactly is JAC Delhi and which colleges does it cover?
JAC Delhi is the centralized counselling authority for B.Tech admissions in Delhi's top government engineering colleges through JEE Main scores.

🔵 DTU — Delhi Technological University
🔴 NSUT — Netaji Subhas University of Technology
🟢 IIIT-Delhi — Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology
🟣 DSEU — Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University
🟠 IGDTUW — Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (female only)

All offer 4-year B.Tech programs and are among the most sought-after engineering institutions in India.
2
What does "cutoff rank" mean and how is it different from a merit rank?
A cutoff rank is the JEE Main rank of the last candidate allotted a seat in a particular college, branch, category, and round.

⚠️ Critical: A lower rank number = stronger candidate. Rank 5,000 is better than rank 15,000. If DTU CSE General Round 5 cutoff is 11,352 — anyone with rank 1 to 11,352 was eligible. If your rank is below (better than) the cutoff, you qualify. If above, you don't — for that combination in that round.
3
Why do cutoffs relax from Round 1 to Round 5?
In Round 1, top-ranked students secure first-choice seats. In Round 2–3, many upgrade to better options — vacating earlier seats. Those seats re-open to candidates with slightly weaker ranks.

📌 Don't give up if your rank just misses Round 1. Thousands of students every year get seats in Round 4 or 5 that were impossible in Round 1. The Spot Round after Round 5 offers the most relaxed cutoffs of the entire process.
4
What is the difference between Delhi domicile and Outside Delhi seats?
JAC Delhi reserves ~85% seats for Delhi domicile candidates and ~15% for Outside Delhi. Outside Delhi candidates compete nationally, so their cutoffs are much tougher.

📊 DTU CSE General Round 5 (2025):
🟢 Delhi: ~11,352  |  🔴 Outside Delhi: ~6,200

✅ Delhi domicile = massive advantage. Outside Delhi candidates should simultaneously explore JoSAA for NITs and IIITs.
5
Which branches are the toughest to get into across JAC Delhi colleges?
2025 Round 5 General (Delhi) cutoffs:

🔴 NSUT CSAI — ~7,946 (toughest overall)
🔴 IIIT-Delhi CSE — ~8,200
🔴 DTU CSE — ~11,352
🔴 NSUT CSE — ~12,500
🟡 DTU MAC — ~14,000 (excellent alternative)
🟡 DTU ECE — ~22,000 (strong, far more accessible)

💡 If your rank misses CSE, ECE and MAC have nearly identical first-year curriculum and comparable tech placements.
6
How should I strategically use cutoff data to predict my 2026 chances?
3-step strategy:

Step 1 — Safety buffer: If your rank is 10–20% better than the Round 5 cutoff, you have a strong chance.

Step 2 — Layered choices: Fill 10–15 choices — 3 aspirational, 5–6 realistic, 3–4 safe backups.

Step 3 — Track trends: If a branch tightened 3 years in a row, expect it to tighten again. Use the charts on this page to identify patterns.
7
What is CSAI at NSUT and why is it so competitive?
CSAI = Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence — the toughest branch in all of JAC Delhi. Why?

1️⃣ Extremely limited seats
2️⃣ Massive demand — AI is the hottest field in 2026
3️⃣ Outstanding placements — Google, Microsoft, top MNCs at premium packages

💡 If CSAI is out of reach, NSUT CSE or DTU ECE are equally strong — same top recruiters visit both.
8
Is IGDTUW only for female candidates? How does it compare in cutoffs?
Yes — IGDTUW is exclusively for female candidates, creating a huge strategic advantage:

✅ Cutoffs 15,000–25,000 ranks more relaxed than DTU/NSUT for the same branch
✅ Rank ~20,000 who misses DTU CSE can comfortably get CSE at IGDTUW
✅ Excellent placements — Microsoft, Deloitte, Infosys, top startups
✅ Women-specific scholarships and mentorship programs

📌 Every female candidate should add IGDTUW CSE/ECE as a top-priority choice.
9
What is the MAC branch at DTU — is it worth choosing?
MAC = Mathematics and Computing — DTU's most underrated yet powerful branch.

📚 Curriculum: Advanced maths, statistics, data science, algorithms, ML — heavy on logic and programming.

💼 Recruiters: Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, D.E. Shaw — same as CSE.

📊 Cutoff only 2,000–5,000 ranks more relaxed than DTU CSE. With Delhi General rank 13,000–17,000, MAC at DTU often outperforms CSE at tier-2 private colleges in placements and alumni network.
10
What reservation categories are available and how do they affect cutoffs?
JAC Delhi 2026 categories:

🔵 GN — Unreserved; toughest cutoffs
🟠 OBC — 27% reservation; ~3,000–10,000 ranks more relaxed than GN
🟣 SC — 15% reservation; significantly more relaxed
🟢 ST — 7.5% reservation; most relaxed
🟡 EWS — 10% for GN with family income below ₹8 lakh/year

✅ Always apply under your correct category — your competition pool shrinks dramatically. Ensure certificate is valid before registration deadline.
11
My rank is higher than the Round 5 cutoff — is there still hope?
Yes — 5 real options remain:

1️⃣ 2026 cutoffs may relax — tougher paper = fewer good ranks = easier cutoffs (5,000–15,000 rank difference possible)
2️⃣ Adjacent branches — ECE, IT, SE, or MAC may be within range with comparable placements
3️⃣ Spot Round — most relaxed cutoffs of the entire JAC process
4️⃣ East campuses — DTU East and NSUT East have notably more relaxed cutoffs
5️⃣ Register anyway — you can decline but cannot apply after the deadline closes
12
Which branches show the most cutoff relaxation from Round 1 to Round 5?
Branches where later rounds help most (General, Delhi, 2025):

🏗️ Civil Engineering — 15,000–25,000 rank relaxation
⚙️ Mechanical Engineering — 10,000–20,000 rank relaxation
🌿 Environmental Engineering — 20,000+ rank relaxation
🧬 Biotechnology — 15,000–20,000 rank relaxation

📌 Rank between 50,000–90,000? These branches at DTU/NSUT are achievable in Round 3–4 and offer strong PSU and core industry career paths.
13
DTU vs NSUT — which is better for placements and overall experience?
🏛️ DTU: Stronger national brand, slightly higher average CTC in CSE/ECE, larger senior alumni network, more active research culture.

🏛️ NSUT: Rapidly improving placements, NSUT CSAI has Delhi's highest packages, strong software and AI industry connections.

🎯 Verdict: DTU holds a slight overall edge for the same branch. But branch matters far more than college — CSE at NSUT consistently outperforms Mechanical at DTU in salaries and job quality.
14
What documents do I need for JAC Delhi 2026 counselling and reporting?
Keep originals + 1 self-attested photocopy of each:

📄 JEE Main 2026 Admit Card and Score Card
📄 Class X certificate (date of birth proof)
📄 Class XII marksheet and admit card
📄 Seat Acceptance Fee payment receipt
📄 Online registration form (signed by candidate and parent)
📄 Seat allotment letter from JAC portal
📄 3 recent passport-size photographs
📄 Valid category certificate (OBC/SC/ST/EWS — if applicable)
📄 Medical fitness certificate in prescribed format
📄 Delhi domicile certificate (Delhi region candidates)

✅ Prepare a dedicated folder before reporting day — one missing document can delay your admission.
15
What is the single most important advice for JAC Delhi 2026 aspirants?
Fill as many choices as possible — and fill them wisely.

Most students make two mistakes: too few choices and ranking emotionally instead of strategically.

✅ Fill 15–20 choices minimum across colleges and branches
✅ Rank by genuine preference, not by cutoff — the system allots your best qualifying option automatically
✅ Include 3–4 safe choices where your rank is comfortably within Round 3 cutoff
Participate in every round — upgrading is free
Never freeze prematurely unless 100% satisfied

The JAC process rewards candidates who are thorough, patient, and strategic. One good decision in choice-filling can change your entire career trajectory.
