How to Fill the JEE Main 2027 Form: A Step-by-Step Guide
The Session 1 form usually stays open for 25–30 days. To avoid mistakes made in a hurry, keep your documents ready in advance.
Know these 4 big changes before filling the form
- Registration has already started. The form was expected to open at the end of October, but NTA began Session 1 registration on 24 October 2026.
- The last date is 22 November 2026. Submit the form and complete the fee payment before then.
- Session 1 exam dates have changed. The earlier calendar had 22–24 and 28–30 January. The exam will now be held on 20–24 and 28 January 2027.
- The Session 2 schedule is out. Registration will run from 5 January to 3 February 2027, and the exam will be held on 2 to 7 April 2027.
Document checklist
- Your name and date of birth should be identical on your Aadhaar card and Class 10 marksheet. Fill the form exactly as per the Class 10 marksheet.
- Keep the photo on your Aadhaar card updated, because the live photo is matched with it.
- If you don't have an EWS/OBC/SC/ST certificate, apply for it now.
- If you live in a rented house and want an exam centre in that city, get a rent agreement made on stamp paper.
Online application: the full process
- New registration. Open "Register yourself" on the NTA website and choose New Registration.
- Basic details. Fill in your name, parents' names, date of birth and gender as per your marksheet.
- Address. Present address is where you live now; permanent address is your home. Your exam city choice depends on these, so if you want a centre like Kota, enter the present address there.
- Contact and password. Give your own or your parents' mobile number and email, not a cyber café's. The password needs one capital letter, one small letter and one special character. After verifying the OTPs on mobile and email, keep the application number you receive safe; you will need it for Session 2.
- Personal details. Home state is the state where you passed Class 12. For OBC, your community must be on the Central List; those on the State List only are counted as General. If you are PwD, enter your UDID number. Fill in the combined family income of both parents accurately.
- Identity. Choose from Aadhaar card, DigiLocker, passport or PAN. Aadhaar is the easiest. Enter the APAAR ID if you have one; otherwise it is not mandatory.
- Paper, city and education. Choose Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech (also tick B.Arch/B.Planning if you want it). Fill in the full Class 10 details. Class 12 details are asked only from droppers.
- Photo, upload and fee. Scan the QR code with your phone and take a live photo against a plain background. Upload the photo, signature and Class 10 marksheet. Then submit the form and pay the fee. Without the fee the form stays "Incomplete". If the payment shows pending, wait a day; if it still doesn't change, pay again and the first amount will be refunded.
Fees (as per the previous pattern)
| Category | Boy | Girl |
|---|---|---|
| General | ₹1000 | ₹800 |
| General-EWS / OBC-NCL | ₹900 | ₹800 |
| SC / ST / PwD | ₹500 | |
JEE Main 2027 Expected Cut-off: Work It Out Yourself with the Calculator
The cut-off depends most on two things: the total number of candidates appearing in the exam, and the number of candidates in your category shortlisted for JEE Advanced. About 2.5 lakh students are selected for Advanced every year, whether 9 lakh or 15 lakh appear. So if the number of students rises while the seats stay the same, the cut-off goes up.
| Year | Candidates | General cut-off |
|---|---|---|
| 2019 | 11.47–11.74 lakh | 89.75 |
| 2020 | 90.38 | |
| 2021 | about 9 lakh | 87.90 |
| 2022 | 88.41 | |
| 2023 | over 14 lakh | 90.78 |
| 2024 | 14.15 lakh | 93.24 |
| 2025 | 14.75 lakh | 93.10 |
| 2026 | 15.38 lakh | 93.41 |
Formula
Total candidates: From 2024 to 2026 there was an average annual increase of about 4.27% (roughly 60–63 thousand). At the same pace, about 16.04 lakh candidates could appear in 2027.
General shortlisted: Leaving out 2019 (the year EWS was introduced) and 2022 (Covid), the average of the other four years is about 97,539.
From these, the formula result for 2027 comes to about 93.9. In past years the actual cut-off has usually been 0.1 to 0.3 lower than the formula (93.41 against 93.70 in 2026), so the most likely value is about 93.6.

Likely actual value with the past trend (−0.3): 93.6
How far can the cut-off go in your category?
| Category | Estimate |
|---|---|
| General | 93.5 to 94.2 |
| EWS | about 83.1 (range 82.5–84) |
| OBC-NCL | about 81.7 (range 81–83) |
| SC | about 65 |
| ST | about 55 or higher |
How to Crack JEE Main in 90 Days
About 90 days are left until 20 January. After that, in February–March, you get only about 15 days between boards and Session 2, and about 40 days between Main and Advanced. There is room for fresh preparation now, not later.
Why choose the January attempt?
Marks needed for the 94th percentile in 2026 (out of 300):
| Session | Toughest shift | Easiest shift |
|---|---|---|
| January 2026 | 93 | 106 |
| April 2026 | 104 | 125 |
To get the same percentile in April you need roughly 11 to 19 more marks, because droppers have given all of February–March to studying.
The 90-day plan: how to start
- First 80 days: Study what you haven't studied and revise what you have. Give each chapter about 2 days: 3–4 hours of one-shot revision, the rest on questions. At this pace 40 chapters get done.
- Last 10 days: At least 2 mocks every day, 9–12 in the morning and 2–5 in the afternoon, so your body gets used to the exam timing. Spend 2–3 hours on analysis after each mock. That is 20 tests in 10 days, about 1500 questions.
- Throughout: Revisit your mock mistakes and the questions you couldn't solve.
High-weightage chapters
The NTA syllabus has about 650 topics, but the questions come from a small part of it. Questions from the 39 shifts of 2024 and 2025 were counted chapter-wise. When compared with the 2026 papers, the top chapters matched about 80%.
Physics (14–16 questions per shift from 13–14 chapters; order approximate):
- KTG + Thermodynamics
- Current Electricity
- Electrostatics
- Ray Optics
- Units and Measurements
- Magnetic Effects of Current
- Rotation
- Fluids
- Kinematics
- Modern Physics
Chemistry (questions across 39 shifts):
- d and f Block (78)
- Coordination Compounds (69)
- Chemical Bonding (61)
- Mole Concept (59)
- Thermodynamics (53)
- Practical Chemistry (44)
Maths:
- 3D Geometry
- Sets, Relations and Functions
- Sequences and Series
- Matrices
- Conic Sections (lower weightage, but rising)
15 Exams to Keep an Eye on Along with JEE
Last time 15.38 lakh students appeared and 18,951 IIT seats were filled, so the selection rate is about 1.2–1.3%. Even adding NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, it is only about 4–5%. The JEE syllabus overlaps with many other exams, so one preparation can give you multiple chances.
| Exam | For | Expected timing (2027) |
|---|---|---|
| JEE Main | NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and eligibility for Advanced | Session 1 January, Session 2 April |
| JEE Advanced | IITs | Third Sunday of May (16 May likely) |
| CUET | Central universities | May (tentatively 11–31) |
| ISI Admission Test | Maths and Statistics, low fees | Mid-May |
| MHT CET | Maharashtra colleges; 80% seats in COEP, 85% in VJTI | April and May (two sessions) |
| WBJEE | West Bengal colleges | End of May |
| COMEDK | Private colleges in Karnataka | May |
| KCET | Karnataka, domicile of the state only | End of May |
| UGEE | IIIT Hyderabad | Early May |
| VITEEE | VIT, backup option | Late April to early May |
| SRMJEEE | SRM, three phases | From April |
| BITSAT | Three BITS campuses (about 2970 seats) | Session 1 April, Session 2 end of May; best of two |
| NEST | Research in science | Early June |
| IAT | 7 IISERs, IIT Madras, IIT Guwahati, IISc | Early June |
| NDA | Defence services | April and September |
Frequently Asked Questions
What is JEE Main 2027? Complete information
JEE Main is the engineering entrance exam conducted by NTA. It opens the way to admission in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, and it also decides eligibility for JEE Advanced, through which IIT seats are obtained.
How to fill the JEE Main 2027 form and what is the last date?
Session 1 registration has been running since 24 October 2026 at jeemain.nta.nic.in, and the last date is 22 November 2026. Start with New Registration, fill in the details, upload the photo and documents, then pay the fee and submit the form. All the steps are given in the form section above.
Which session should I take seriously, January or April?
January. In April, more marks are needed for the same percentile, and very little preparation time is left after the boards.
Is this cut-off certain?
No. This is an estimate built on past data. NTA announces the actual cut-off after the exam, based on both sessions.
Do I need to fill a new form for Session 2?
No new registration; you continue with the application number from Session 1. So keep it safe.
Is studying only high-weightage chapters enough?
If time is short this is the right priority, but any chapter can appear in the paper. If you can cover the full syllabus, that is better.
